MUNCIE, Ind. - The Xavier men's tennis team stepped out of conference action to face a difficult Ball State squad that handed the Musketeers a 4-3 loss on Sunday at the YMCA.
"We started the match great playing really good doubles but could not maintain our momentum in the early stages of singles," head coach Eric Toth said. "You have to simply give a lot of credit to Ball State for gaining control of the match. They are very well coached and have guys that compete well and surely have been in that situation before. It's disappointing to lose, but the effort was there.
"We've been really good all year in starting our singles matches strong, but today it was not meant to be. We'll be okay and work hard this weekend to get ready for Saint Louis on Friday."
MacDonald picked up his fifth-straight victory by winning both sets by 6-4 scores. Mei bounced back after a first set loss to pull out a victory at the No. 2 singles spot.
Adam Krull's impressive match winning streak came to an end with a loss at the No. 5 singles position. The freshman had won 13 matches before Sunday.
The Musketeers return to conference action on Friday when it visits Saint Louis.
