March 16, 2014
CHICAGO, Il. - The Xavier men's tennis team fell to BIG EAST rival DePaul, Mar. 15, 5-2.
Throughout the course of the afternoon the Musketeers played extremely well but were unable to put the pressure on the Blue Demons come crunch time.
Senior Mesa Mei and sophomore Jeremy Schneider tallied Xavier's only wins in singles competition. Mei knocked off DePaul's David Vieyra in two sets 6-4, 7-6(3). Schneider also won in two sets defeating Jan-Willem Feilzer 6-4, 6-3.
With the loss to DePaul, the Musketeers now move to 8-8 (.500) on the season.
"We wanted to start our BIG EAST season with a win, but DePaul was the better team tonight." Head Coach Eric Toth Stated. "Our fight was there, but we probably needed one more really good performance in singles to make the match tighter and put a little more pressure on our opponent. It just never happened. We'll work hard this week on what we need to and be ready for Dayton next weekend."
