BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Xavier men's tennis team fell to 5-8 on the season as they fell to Florida Atlantic 5-2 Wednesday afternoon.
"Today was the best we have competed as a team the entire season," said XU assistant coach Doug Matthews. "All nine guys came together and showed incredible intensity. It really felt like a conference match the way both teams got after it. Good things are going to happen to us if we can bring that level of intensity day in and day out."
Senior Richard Canelas and junior Brandon MacDonald earned Xavier's two points with singles wins at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Canelas topped Will Neuner 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 while MacDonald defeated Garrett Betsarakis 6-3, 6-3.
Xavier will return to action March 16 as they face Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's.
