SAN FRANCISCO, Calif -- Xavier earned the doubles point but were unable to overcome No. 60 San Francisco in singles play and fell to the Dons 5-2 Thursday afternoon.

Senior Chris Herrlinger and freshman Patrick Bandy earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and Anthony Palmenter and Brian Starr posted an 8-5 win at No. 2.

But the Dons rallied in singles play, winning five of six matches. Richard Canelas earned the lone XU singles win when he defeated Ola Bakke 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.

"We fought hard and had a chance to close this one out and beat another top 75 team, but did not get the job done," said men's assistant coach Rudy Vliegenberg. "San Francisco has a very good team and this could have been a great win for our guys. I feel if we can continue to play and compete at the level we are at now, perform maybe a little better in the clutch, we will have a strong finish to an already successful season."

With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 8-6 overall and will return home to face Atlantic 10 rival Charlotte March 12.
