No. 74 Xavier Men's Tennis Team Falls At Santa Clara 7-0
March 2, 2010
SANTA CLARA, Calif -- The No. 74 Xavier men's tennis team ran into a roadblock at Santa Clara Monday afternoon as the Musketeers fell to the Broncos 7-0 in non-conference action. The duo of Patrick Bandy and Chris Herrlinger posted XU's lone win with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.
"The match wasn't nearly as bad as the scores may indicate, especially in singles," said Xavier head coach Eric Toth. "Santa Clara has a tremendous team and their play reflected that today. For our first match outdoors I felt we competed as well as we could today. The level of competition was simply too much for our guys to overcome. We really played good doubles. It came down to a couple of points on court number two to determine the match's first point. We play another very good team in San Francisco on Thursday. For us to earn a victory we will have to play at a much higher level for that to be the case. I'm confident our guys will do everything that they can to make that happen."
Herrlinger fell in a hard-fought, three-set match at No. 1 singles. The A-10 Player of the Week fell to Kyle Dandan 6-1, 2-6, 1-0(8).
Freshman Brandon MacDonald saw his singles win streak end at three as he fell to Nicolas Vinel 6-1, 6-2.
With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 8-5 overall. XU will face San Francisco March 4.
