FAIRFIELD, Ohio - The Xavier men's tennis team made it nine-straight convincing victories in a row as it defeated new Atlantic 10 foe Butler, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Mercy Fairfield HealthPlex.

The Musketeers captured their second A-10 match of the season to improve to 2-0 in the league and 9-1 overall. The only loss of the night came at No. 6 singles after Xavier's player resigned due to injury.

"Today was nice end to the first portion of our season," said head coach Eric Toth. "Our program values every A-10 win we earn. Everybody on board must realize that we will be challenged quite a bit more on our upcoming road trip and we will have to fight and compete our best if our spring break trip is to be a winning one."

The Musketeers leave the mainland and head to Hawaii where they will face Hawaii-Pacific and Hawaii beginning next Wednesday.

Junior and reigning A-10 Performer of the Week Jimmy Roebker earned two 6-2 set victories to defeat Austin Woldmoe at the No. 1 singles position. His classmate Mesa Mei wrangled away a three-set victory over Pulok Bhattacharya at the No. 2 singles spot giving him his 10th-straight win in singles play.

The remainder of the singles players for the Musketeers who picked up singles victories did so in straight sets. Those who won were junior Brandon MacDonald and freshmen Zack Mueck and Adam Krull. The retirement of sophomore Freddy Abunku at the No. 6 spot broke a string of seven-straight 7-0 victories.

Xavier started off the match fighting off Butler to win the doubles point. Seniors Patrick Bandy and Philip Diaz defeated Bhattacharya and Tommy Marx, 8-5, at the second doubles position. Sophomore Michael Moe and Mueck knocked off Sam O'Neill and Brandon Woods, 8-6, at the third spot.

The Musketeers' top doubles partner was leading Billy Weldon and Woldmore when the doubles point was decided.
