CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team posted its second win over an Ohio Valley Conference team this season as the Musketeers defeated EKU 6-1 Friday.
"I was pleased that we bounced back with a very good win after Tuesday's tough loss to Butler," said XU head coach Eric Toth. "Eastern Kentucky, like the majority of the teams on our schedule, compete very well and do not make things easy.
"We did a great job winning close first sets on several of the singles courts to keep the match's momentum in our favor. I was really happy for Patrick Bandy that he was able to pull through in his singles match. His opponent made it very difficult for him to get anything going for most of the match. Patrick really fought hard to pull out a tough second set and played a great match tiebreak to earn the win. Brown will present another challenge for us tomorrow. They are a school we have typically not played and I know our guys are excited to take on a not-so-common opponent from a strong conference."
Bandy posted a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 win over Carlos Valdenebro at No. 3 singles. Chris Herrlinger earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1, JT Torbeck posted a win at No. 4, and Brandon MacDonald and Brian Starr rounded out the singles wins for XU.
With the win, the Musketeers improve to 6-4 overall. XU will host Brown Saturday at 2 p.m.
