NORMAL, Ill. -- The Xavier men's tennis team fell to Illinois State 4-3 Friday night to move to 2-6 on the year. XU won the doubles point but the Redbirds rallied in singles play to take the win.
"We started out with great energy and took a very difficult doubles point," said assistant coach Doug Matthews. "We started singles very flat but credit ISU, they started singles on a mission. We fought back and nearly came back from a 3-1 deficit. Tomorrow we need to play a complete match against Bradley."
Michael Moe earned a three-set win (3-6, 6-4, 6-0) over Willi Peter at No. 5 singles and Pretorius defeated Jacob Wilson 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 to get XU within a point of winning the match. ISU was able toe earn wins in four singles matches though and take the win.
XU faces Bradley Saturday at 2 p.m.
