CINCINNATI - After falling 7-0 to Toledo on Saturday, the Xavier men's tennis team bounced back on Sunday with a 6-1 defeat over visiting IPFW at the Mercy HealthPlex at Anderson. The Musketeers improve to 5-2 with the win while the Mastodons drop to 1-2.

XU recorded the first point of the match with victories at second and third doubles. At No. 2, senior Oliver Marinkovic and junior Jeremy Miller posted an 8-2 defeat of Daniel Jackson and Tony Mitson. In the third position, Ra'ees Ismail and Rustin Reys teamed for an 8-4 win over Arturo Salgado and Carlos Gonzalez.

In singles action, the Musketeers recorded wins in five of the six matches to take the team win over the Mastodons. At No. 1, Marinkovic recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over Landry Nzudie while fellow senior Rob Simpson moved up to the third position where posted a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Carlos Gonzalez. In the fourth position, Ismail recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hermann Kuschke. Sophomore Brian Schubert posted a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Salgado at No. 5 and Adam Shaeffer finished up the Xavier win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tony Mitson at No. 6.

The men's tennis team will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when the Musketeers will travel to Indianapolis for a match at Butler University.
