CINCINNATI - Already holding 2013 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors and a second team All-BIG EAST selection, respectively, seniors Nick Hagglund (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) and Matt Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) added another distinction to their impressive resumes on Tuesday, earning NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Great Lakes Region honors.

Hagglund, who was also named first team All-BIG EAST and to the College Sports Madness All-BIG EAST first team, earned second team All-Great Lakes honors. Hagglund, part of the XU defense that allowed only eight goals in nine league contests, is the only Xavier player in program history to earn a league defensive player of the year award. The Cincinnati native was named to the 2012 NSCAA Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's All-America Second Team and was a NSCAA All-Region First Team selection as a sophomore.

The honors add to the list of awards Hagglund has already racked up this season. He was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com Preseason All-American first team, named one of the top 10 defenders in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com, earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Best XI second team, was named No. 17 on Top Drawer Soccer's Men's National Top 100 Upperclassmen  list, selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team and College Sports Madness BIG EAST Preseason All-Conference first team and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

In his four seasons on the pitch for the Musketeers, Hagglund was a fixture for Xavier. He amassed 81 starts, over 7,200 minutes played, four goals and 11 assists. The Blue & White recorded 31 shutouts with Hagglund as a member of the backline.

Matt Walker's first career NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region (third team) award came on the heels of a team-high nine goals, seven assists and 25 points. The midfielder from Batavia, Ohio, who was a 2013 second team All-BIG EAST selection and earned a spot on the College Sports Madness All-BIG EAST first team, scored 18 goals and registered 16 assists in the last two seasons. Walker, a BIG EAST Player of the Week honoree on Sept. 16, finished second in points (14) and goals (6) and tied for ninth in assists (2) in the league during conference play.

Through games played on Dec. 8, Walker ranked 32nd in the nation and 3rd in the BIG EAST in assists per game (0.41), while also ranking 18th nationally and No. 1 in the conference in points per game (1.47).

On the field, the Blue and White finished the 2013 season with a record of 10-7-2, including a 6-3-0 mark in BIG EAST play, and earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. The 10 victories in the 2013 season gave the XU men's soccer program its fourth consecutive 10+ win season.
