Nov. 7, 2013
CINCINNATI – The Xavier men’s soccer team, riding a six-game winning streak, will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on the Butler Bulldogs on Friday (Nov. 7). The match is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. at the Butler Bowl.
Game No. 18: Xavier (10-5-2, 5-2-0 BIG EAST) at Butler (9-7-1, 3-5-0 BIG EAST)
With the win, the Musketeers improved to 10-5-2 overall (6-2-0 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats fell to 8-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in BIG EAST play. The win also gave XU their fourth consecutive 10+ win season and kept the Blue and White in the chase for the league title as well as a first round bye as one of the top two finishers.
Nova scrambled fiercely to try to get the equalizer, but the Blue and White effectively defended the last of VU's four corner kicks on the day and ran out the clock.
Villanova finished with a 14-6 advantage in shot attempts, while Xavier had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Xavier goalkeeper Eric Osswald (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty/USF) picked up his 10th win and sixth shutout of the season, while registering seven saves in 90 minutes between the pipes.
On the year, the Musketeers have netted 24 goals, allowing 16 scores with a 0.94 goals-against average. XU has been led offensively this season with eight goals from senior Matt Walker and five from redshirt junior Will Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia).
