CINCINNATI - Junior defender Sean Ryan was named a Capital One Academic All-District 2011-12 Men's Soccer Team, which was released Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Ryan, a center back for the nationally-ranked Xavier men's soccer defense, is a double major in economics and finance and currently has a 3.92 GPA. He was named to his first Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team last year and has been named to six consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
The Hilliard, Ohio native has started in all 53-career games for the Musketeers and has logged 4,691 minutes in those games. Those numbers average out to 88.5 per minutes per game or 94.5 percent of total minutes.
Earlier this year Ryan was named a College Soccer News' Team Linchpin, an award that recognizes his non-statistical contributions. He has one-career goal and three-career assists and has led his defense to 17 shutouts in the last two years.
He is now eligible for the All-American team that commences voting early next week. Voting is conducted by members of CoSIDA.
Ryan becomes the first CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree since Toni Skudrzik earned the distinction in 2006.
