Duquesne Blanks Men's Soccer
CINCINNATI --- Duquesne downed the Xavier men’s soccer team 2-0 in an Atlantic 10 match Sunday at XU’s Corcoran Field. The Musketeers fall to 3-10-1 overall and 1-5 in the Atlantic 10 this year. Duquesne moves 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the A-10.
Duquesne got on the board first at 32:25 into the match. Dan Hartung fed the ball to David Gingrich who scored a breakaway goal. Gingrich blasted the ball through the hands of Xavier keeper Brian Schaeper (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) who was sliding to take the ball away near the top of the box.
Gingrich scored his second goal on a header just over 12 minutes into the second half. Derek Mackenzie played a cross to the far side of the goal box. Nathan Salsi headed it toward the goal mouth where Gingrich headed it in through traffic.
The Musketeers out-shot the Dukes 11-3 in the match, but failed to convert on any of their chances. It was Xavier’s eighth shutout loss of the season.
The Musketeers will return to action Sunday at home against St. Bonaventure. The match will begin at 1 p.m. on Corcoran Field.
