Musketeers Defeat Rams in Men's Soccer

CINCINNATI ? The Xavier men?s soccer defeated the visiting Fordham Rams 2-0 on Friday evening at a cold Corcoran Field. The two teams played to a scoreless tie for over the first 80 minutes of the match, but the Musketeers were able to find the net twice in the final minutes.

At 82:34, junior Charles Morgan (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial) received the ball out of a scramble in the box and put a shot over Fordham’s keeper from 18 yards out. Morgan’s goal was his third on the year.

Xavier continued the late scoring surge with another goal from freshman Steven Barten (Budel, The Netherlands/Tilburg), who beat the Ram defender and shot the ball into the left corner of the net. Barten is currently the team leader in goals with six on the year.

With the fifth shutout victory of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Brian Schaeper (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) ties the record for most shutouts in a season with five. Schaeper finished the match with four saves, all of which were recorded in the first period.

Xavier raises its record to 6-7 on the year and is now 1-4 in the Atlantic 10. Fordham falls to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the A-10. The win snaps the four-game losing streak for the Musketeers .

Xavier out-shot Fordham 21-11 in the match. Nathaniel Freihaut finished the match with eight saves in goal for the Rams.

The Musketeers will return to action against La Salle on Sunday afternoon at Corcoran Field.
