BIG EAST Release

CINCINNATI - A trio of Xavier University men's soccer players earned weekly awards after helping lead the Musketeers to an undefeated week (2-0) last week. Eric Osswald (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty/USF) and Jalen Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebuf Jesuit) were named BIG EAST Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Will Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Last week was huge for the Blue and White, as they picked up the program's first BIG EAST victories (home and road) and also knocked off a nationally-ranked team in the Hoyas of Georgetown. Xavier's win over GU handed the Hoyas (9-3-1, 2-1-1 BIG EAST), who lost in the 2012 College Cup Championship game, their first conference loss of the season. The victory also gave XU it's first home BIG EAST win, the first win over a ranked opponent this season and the first win over a nationally ranked opponent since the Musketeers defeated No. 8 Charlotte in the first round of the A-10 Tournament on Nov. 10, 2011.

The Musketeers (6-5-2, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they take on No. 22 St. John's in Queens, N.Y. in a match that is slated to start at 7 p.m.
