CINCINNATI - Senior forward Toni Skudrzik has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Xavier men's soccer team to a spotless 2-0 record over the weekend. Skudrzik scored two goals, including the game-winner vs. Massachusetts on Sunday, to lead Xavier to its first two-win weekend since 2003.
Skudrzik is Xavier's first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honoree since Brandon Lalley earned the accolade on October 13, 2003.
Skudrzik's game-winner on Sunday came off a corner kick just seconds after he had been inserted into the lineup. The Indianapolis native helped Xavier to its first 3-0-0 start in Atlantic 10 play since the 1998 season and to its first three-match winning streak since 2002.
The Musketeers, now 6-6-0, have notched six wins in 12 matches and that marks the fastest Xavier has reached six wins since the 1998 campaign.
Skudrzik scored Xavier's first goal in its 2-1 win over Rhode Island on Friday and tallied a three-point afternoon on Sunday by also dishing out an assist against the Minutemen on Sunday.
The Musketeers are back in action when they travel to defending league champion Saint Louis to take on the Billikens. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Friday.
