Enders' Overtime Goal Leads Men's Soccer Past Saint Bonaventure
St. BONAVENTURE, NY Ė Freshman striker Jon Enders scored the contestís only goal at 93:26, propelling the Xavier University menís soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory over St. Bonaventure in New York. The victory improves the Musketeerís record to 3-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in Conference action. The Bonnies slip to 5-3-1 on the year, 1-1-0 in the loop.
The victory marked head coach Jack Hermans' 100th win of his career.
Defender Chris Wolever played a ball to sophomore Matt Kmetz who struck a cross through the box and found the head of Enders. Enders hit a header over the outstretched arms of St. Bonaventure keeper Sean Eyde to give XU its first conference victory of the season.
Wolever's assist capped a five-point week for the junior. He had registered five points in his previous two years at XU.
XU out-shot the Bonnies 10-to-8 on the afternoon and held a 5-to-2 edge in shots on goal. Senior net-minder Brian Schaeper stopped both shots he faced in net to record the shutout.
The Musketeers are back in action on Friday, October 8 when they continue league play with match against Temple. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the XU Soccer Complex.
