Men's Soccer Heads To Pitt To Wrapup Non-Conference Slate

CINCINNATI – The Xavier men’s soccer team will close out the non-conference portion of the 2013 schedule on Tuesday night (Oct. 1) at Pitt. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

After going unbeaten for five consecutive matches, the Musketeers fell to Marquette in the BIG EAST Conference opener on Sept. 28. On the year, the Blue and White have netted nine goals, allowing 10 scores with a 1.11 goals-against average. XU has been led offensively this season with three goals and five assists from senior Matt Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia). Junior Will Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) is second on the team with a pair of goals and five points. Between the pipes, XU has used a pair of keepers, with Eric Osswald (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty/USF) racking up 28 saves and three shutouts in eight games and Vince Shaw (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) tallying three saves in a pair of appearances.

Pitt is coming off a 2-0 loss at Maryland, where goalkeeper Dan Lynd  made eight saves in front of the Terps’ hostile crowd.

For the year, Pitt has been led offensively by Ryan Myers who has three points on a goal and an assist. Chu Chu Onyeukwu and Zane Meehan each have two points on the year. Lynd has led the Panthers between the pipes ranking first in the ACC with 5.25 saves per game.

UP NEXT
After Tuesday’s non-conference battle with Pitt, the Musketeers will hit the road for a pair of BIG EAST matches. XU will face Creighton (Oct. 5), before heading to Chicago to take on DePaul (Oct. 9).
