Enders Scores First Goal of 2007 But Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 at Marquette
Senior Jon Enders scored his first goal of the season but it was not enough as the Xavier University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Marquette on Friday evening in Milwaukee, Wis. With the loss, the Musketeers slip to 2-1-0 on the season while the Golden Eagles improve to 1-2-0.

Xavier has gone unbeaten for five consecutive matches, after a rough 0-3 start to begin the season. On the year, the Blue and White have netted nine goals, allowing nine scores with a 1.12 goals-against average. XU has been led offensively this season with three goals and five assists from senior Matt Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia). Junior Will Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) is second on the team with a pair of goals and five points. Between the pipes, XU has used a pair of keepers, with Eric Osswald (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty/USF) racking up 25 saves and three shutouts in seven games and Vince Shaw (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) tallying a trio of saves in two appearances.

• Louis Bennett is in his eighth year as head coach at Marquette. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 16-4-1 overall mark in 2012. MU welcomed a nationally ranked recruiting class in 2013 while returning nine starters and a number of key reserves from last year's squad.

• Eight different Marquette players have found the back of the net this season, led by freshman Louis Bennett II and redshirt sophomore C. Nortey with three goals each.

• MU has shutout three opponents and have surrendered eight goals in seven contests (1.11 GAA).

• Marquette's goal production has come without the services of All-American attacking midfielder Bryan Ciesiulka. The senior co-captain suffered a concussion in the season-opener at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has missed the last six matches.

The Musketeers will hit the road for their next three matches. XU will face Pittsburgh in non-conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, before battling BIG EAST foes Creighton (Oct. 5) and DePaul (Oct. 9).

After starting the season 0-3, the Musketeers have bounced back in a huge way. Since their rough start the Blue and White have gone unbeaten in five straight matches (3-0-2), including wins over Kentucky, UC Irvine and crosstown rival Cincinnati.

During their five match unbeaten streak, the Musketeer defense has been solid, only surrendering two goals during the streak.

Goalkeeper Eric Osswald has been dominant between the pipes, registering three shutouts and 22 saves over the last five contests.

Last season, Xavier outscored the opposition 31-8 with four shutouts and finished with a 9-0-1 record on their home pitch. Dating back to the 2011 season, the Musketeers have gone 16-2-3 over their last 21 home contests.

The Musketeers have received plenty of preseason recognition from multiple outlets.
