Xavier Falls 4-1 to Valparaiso
Senior midfielder Nick Frasher scored his second goal of the season but Valparaiso scored three second half goals to take home a 4-1 victory over the Xavier Univesity menís soccer team on Sunday afternoon at the XU Soccer Complex. With the loss, XU slips to 1-4-0 on the season while Valpo improves to 2-2-2.
Valpo took the lead for good at the 11:10 mark when D.J Catrow notched his sixth score of the season. Catrow controlled a feed from Jeremy Stacy in the box and found the back of the net, just past a diving Brian Schaeper.
After Mark Korba put Valpo up 2-0 when he headed in a rebound of a Schaeper save, Frasher drew XU to one strike after he struck a free kick past VU keeper Jeff Oleck into the upper left hand corner.
Valpo would score twice more though after XU was forced to play more men up front, allowing several one-on-one scoring chances for Valpo.
Schaeper made seven saves in net for XU and Oleck stopped nine Musketeer shots.
XU out-shot Valpo 21-to-9 on the afternoon and out cornered VU 4-to-2.
XU is back in action when they play host to cross town rival Cincinnati on Wednesday, September 22 at the XU Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
