CINCINNATI – Riding a two-match winning streak, the Xavier men’s soccer team will host the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville on Tuesday night. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.

Game No. 6: Xavier (2-3-0) vs. Cedarville (2-0-1)
Date: Sept. 17, 2013  | Time: 7:00 p.m. ET

Live Stats:

Cedarville, a Division II school that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, is coming off a 1-0 win over Walsh on Sept. 10. Jon Earl scored the game's only goal in the first half and Ethan Dewhurst posted his third straight shutout to lead Cedarville to a 1-0 non-conference result.

Xavier comes into Tuesday’s match riding the momentum from a huge 2-1 win over Kentucky on Saturday night. On the season, the Blue and White have netted seven goals in five contests, allowing eight scores with a 1.60 goals-against average. XU has been led offensively early in the year with three goals and four assists from senior Matt Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia). Senior Gino De Paoli (Highland Village, Texas/Marcus), junior Will Walker (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia), sophomore Calum Latham (Springfield, Ohio/Central Catholic) and freshman Jalen Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebuf Jesuit) have each scored once. Between the pipes, XU has used a pair of keepers, with Eric Osswald (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty/USF) racking up 10 saves in four games and Vince Shaw (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) tallying a trio of saves in two appearances.

The Musketeers will hit the road for their next two matches. XU will face Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. (Sept. 21; 2:30 p.m.), before facing crosstown rival Cincinnati on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

After starting the season 0-3, the Musketeers bounced back in a huge way last week. On Sept. 10, XU registered their first win of the 2013 campaign by shutting out UC Irvine, who went on to upset No. 16 Louisville on Friday night (Sept. 13), 2-0.

In their second game of the week, a rematch of the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, seniors Matt Walker and Gino De Paoli netted goals to give the Xavier a 2-1 win over Kentucky in front of spirited crowd of 1,036 fans at the XU Soccer Complex.

Last season, Xavier outscored the opposition 31-8 with four shutouts and finished with a 9-0-1 record on their home pitch. Dating back to the 2011 season, the Musketeers have gone 16-2-2 over their last 20 home contests.

The Musketeers have received plenty of preseason recognition from multiple outlets.
