CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's soccer team continued its recent success of national recognition as it was ranked No. 24 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's Week Three 2011 Men's Tournament 48 Ranking, which was announced Monday.
The Musketeers started the season ranked 39th in the nation and moved up 15 spots - their highest national ranking - after beating Marshall and Lipscomb 1-0 to begin the season.
"This is a positive moment and well deserved day for our players and program," head coach Andy Fleming said. "However, as of tomorrow this is a thing of the past and our future standing will be based on how we continue moving forward."
"We must evolve, perform, and improve in order to maintain the respect of the nation. Rankings of this nature can sway from game-to-game and week-to-week, which bodes well for our approach and focus. If we remain focused on the process we have a good chance to sustain some of this momentum."
The Top 25 ranking is another addition to a list of firsts that the Musketeers have achieved since Fleming took over as the head coach prior to last year's first Atlantic 10 Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Xavier was ranked fourth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional poll and moved up to third in today's poll. The Musketeers reached the second spot in the region at the end of 2010, the highest in school history. Xavier has been ranked for a record 11-consecutive weeks in the regional poll.
The Musketeers have a nine-day break between contests. They will host IPFW at home on Sept. 13.
