CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's soccer team plays host to Wright State as it opens the 2012 portion of the home schedule beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday from the Xavier University Soccer Complex.

The Musketeers (0-0-1) enter the home portion of their schedule tonight after earning a 1-1 draw against No. 20 Northwestern on Saturday night.

Xavier was only nine seconds away from a victory when a penalty kick was awarded to the Wildcats who converted the chance and sent the game to overtime. Had the win held up it would have been the third ranked opponent that Xavier had beaten since last season.

Forward Luke Spencer provided the goal for the Musketeers with a laser inside of the left post in the 14th minute of play. It was 16th goal of the career for the senior from Winton Woods and the second against a ranked opponent.

Goalkeeper Justin Marshall (0-0-1) played the entirety of the match and earned the tie. He stopped six shots while facing 19 total shots over 110 minutes of play.

The Raiders (0-1-0) opened the 2012 season with a 2-0 loss to Marshall on Friday. Wright State fell behind immediately allowing a goal just 95 seconds into play. Marshall tacked on a second score in the 38th minute.

Wright State was ranked 45th by TopDrawerSoccer.com in its preseason poll. They have since dropped out after the loss to Marshall.

In the final non-conference game last season, Xavier fell behind early to the Raiders on the road only to storm from behind scoring three goals in four minutes. Gino De Paoli sliced a free kick home to start the scoring and Luke Spencer netted consecutive penalty kicks to give the Musketeers the 3-2 road win.

Xavier is ranked in three of the four major men's soccer collegiate polls and is receiving votes in one other national poll. The Musketeers have been ranked in at least one national poll for 16 straight weeks dating back to the end of the 2010 season.

As of Monday afternoon the national polls had the Musketeers ranked 22nd (College Soccer News), 35th (College Sports Madness), and 36th (TopDrawerSoccer.com). Polls that have yet to be released are the NSCAA national and regional ranking and Soccer America.

Xavier returns to the friendly confines of the Xavier University Soccer Complex where they recorded a 5-1-1 record last year. This is the first home game of the season for the Musketeers, who opened last fall with a 1-0 victory over Marshall. Xavier is 1-1-0 when opening its home schedule under head coach Andy Fleming. The Musketeers lost to Butler in 2010.

The game will be streamed live on GoXavier.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
