CINCINNATI – Xavier men’s soccer senior Nick Hagglund (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Lakota West HS) has been named to the 2013 College Sports Madness preseason All-America third team, the website announced on Friday. The standout defender is one of 10 BIG EAST players that landed a spot on one of the four teams.

Hagglund, who earned XU's first NSCAA All-American award (Second Team) last season, helped lead the Musketeers to their best season in program history. He started all 22 matches for the Blue and White and registered two goals and four assists as Xavier finished the season with a 14-3-5 record, which included the program's first NCAA Tournament at-large bid, tourney victory and third-straight appearance into the 48-team field.

In his three seasons on the pitch for the Musketeers, Hagglund, a 2013 preseason All-BIG EAST selection, has been a fixture for Xavier. He's amassed 61 starts, 5,512 minutes played, four goals and eight assists. The Blue & White have recorded 20 shutouts with Hagglund as a member of the backline.

Hagglund and the rest of the men’s soccer team, ranked No. 22 in the 2013 College Soccer News Preseason Poll, kick off the 2013 regular season at the College of Charleston Tournament in Charleston, S.C. XU battles Furman on August 30, followed by a matchup with the host Cougars two days later.
