CINCINNATI - Xavier junior Matt Walker and sophomore Will Walker played pivotal roles in helping the Crew Juniors win the US Youth Soccer 2012 National Championship, the second time in three years the developmental team for the Columbus Crew MLS team has won the U-19 Boys McGuire Cup.

The Crew Juniors represented Region II and posted a 3-1-0 record against the three other regions. The Crew Juniors rallied to defeat GSA 93 Phoenix Red on Saturday night the McGuire Cup, the oldest trophy in youth sports.

Matt Walker scored once and his twin brother Will Walker scored once and had two game-winning assists in four games for the Crew Juniors.

Will Walker recorded a game-winning assist in the Crew Juniors' 1-0 victory over West Coast FC to start the tournament. Both Walker twins would make a difference in the 2-1 victory over Empire United Syracuse with Matt Walker scoring the equalizer and Will Walker posting another game-winning assist. The win over Empire United secured a spot in the finals for the Crew Juniors.

In the final group-play match Will Walker scored early, but allowed GSA 93 Phoenix Red to come from behind to take a 2-1 victory, setting up a rematch in the final.

The Crew Juniors erased a one-goal deficit and defeated the GSA 93 Phoenix Red 2-1.

Also representing Xavier on the squad was sophomore Matt Hill and junior Nick Hagglund.

The tournament was played in Rock Hill, S.C., over four days and the final was broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel.
