Steinwall Named To ESPN RISE Winter All-American Third Team
July 7, 2011
CINCINNATI - Incoming freshman Owen Steinwall is the latest member of the 2011 Xavier men's soccer recruiting class to garner national accolades as he was named to the ESPN RISE Winter All-America Third Team recently.
Steinwall, a midfielder from Scottsdale, Ariz., became the first Xavier men's soccer recruit to garner ESPN Rise All-American honors. This winter he helped guide Notre Dame Prep to a 20-1-0 record and Arizona 4A Division II State Championship.
"This is a well deserved honor for a player who continues to make waves on the national level," head men's soccer coach Andy Fleming said. "Despite some of his accolades, Owen was still able to fly under the radar in some regards. Yet in recent months, his athleticism, demeanor and versatility have allowed him to further emerge onto the national scene."
Steinwall finished his senior season with four goals and seven assists. He is ranked as the No. 51 men's soccer high school player in the country and No. 2 men's soccer player in the Rocky Mountain and Southwest region by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
The ESPN RISE honor is yet another for a prized recruiting class for the defending Atlantic 10 Champions. In the fall James Weber (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union HS) became an all-time Top 10 goal scorer in U.S. high school history. Jake Linden (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) was named the 2011 Gatorade Nebraska Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The recruiting class was also featured in an article by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
The Musketeers open their 2011 season on Aug. 16 with a home exhibition against Notre Dame.
