Incoming Freshman Impresses During Recent Tour of China

CINCINNATI - Incoming freshman Cory Brown (Wellington, New Zealand, Ole Academy) recently returned from a two week tour of China where he represented his native New Zealand at the Under 20 international level. During that time he participated in three matches and also was brought in to train with the full national team. Brown was one of just two eighteen-year-olds on the trip and further cemented his progress towards possible Olympic and senior national team appearances in the near future.

"This is a big deal for our program and certainly for Cory," said Xavier head coach Andy Fleming. "While he is a veteran of the youth national team scheme, to be brought in as one of the younger members is a feather in his cap and working with the full national team is a tremendous statement and often unheard of for players his age. We obviously feel that the travel, demands and exposure to professional level athletes will smoothen his transition for this August."

Brown played the entire match in a 1-0 loss to China and also logged a full 90 minutes in an impressive 0-0 tie with Brazil and a 2-1 loss vs Croatia's U20s. He made three appearances in last years FIFA U 17 World Cup and will be involved in qualifying for the 2016 Olympics starting next spring.
