CINCINNATI - Former Musketeer Nick Hagglund, a 2014 XU graduate and the 2014 first round draft pick (10th overall) of the MLS club Toronto FC, has made the most of his playing opportunities as of late and has already helped TFC match its win total from last season.

The rookie has played a huge role in six of Toronto's last seven matches. During the span, TFC has gone 4-1-2 and have a six-game unbeaten streak, which has featured two shutouts, most notably against New York Red Bulls when Hagglund helped shut down Frenchman Tierry Henry, arguably one of the best goal scorers of his generation.

Hagglund, who was named Man-of-the-Match on June 7 in Tornoto FC's 1-0 shutout win over the San Jose Earthquakes, has put in consistent and clean performances since becoming a regular starter in the middle of May and has firmly placed himself in the running for MLS Rookie of the Year. With Hagglund in the starting lineup, the Reds have suffered just one defeat in league play. Used as a right fullback against San Jose, the No. 10 draft pick enjoyed a dominant match that saw him boldly try at goal three times, as well as win a penalty for his side.

"I'm happy for Nick," said Xavier men's soccer head coach Andy Fleming. "He kept his head down, plied his trade and has listened well. He certainly was ready from an athletic standpoint and needed to just settle in, believe in himself and learn what he could and couldn't get away with when defending professionals. He has a lot of season left and is very even-keeled about all of this."

After a three week World Cup break, MLS returns back to action on June 27.
