June 17, 2008
CINCINNATI – The Xavier University men’s soccer team has finalized its schedule for the 2008 season as announced by head coach Dave Schureck on Tuesday. The 18-game slate includes seven home games and 11 games on the road. Additionally, Xavier will play a pair of exhibition matches.
"Our 2008 schedule has shaped up to be one of the most competitive we have faced,” said Schureck. “There are six non-conference games against teams with NCAA tournament experience in the last two years, including 2007 College Cup participant Virginia Tech. There is no doubt we will need to be at our best in non-conference play. Our goal, each and every year, is to make the A-10 tournament and this schedule will prepare us for a very tough Atlantic 10."
XU’s exhibition season kicks off on Monday, August 18 when the team will take on Rio Grande at 7 p.m. The Musketeers will than play host to Oakland in an exhibition contest set for 7 p.m. on Friday, August 22. The 2008 regular season slate will commence on Friday, August 29 when XU plays host to crosstown rival Cincinnati at 7 p.m.
The Musketeers will enjoy the friendly confines of the XU Soccer Complex only once more during the non-conference season as the team will hit the road for seven of last eight non-league matches. The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a match at College Cup participant Virginia Tech on September 7 at 4 p.m.
