Men's Soccer Announces 2005 Schedule

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Head coach Dave Schureck has announced the 2005 Xavier University men’s soccer schedule. The schedule consists of 19 regular season contests and one exhibition match at Louisville on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m.

With the addition of Charlotte and Saint Louis in the A-10, the league has decided to employ an unbalanced schedule in which each team will play nine conference games.

“We have a very demanding schedule compounded by the fact that we will only play six games at home this season,” said Schureck. “The reality is we only have two non-conference home games and that will better prepare us for the rigors of Atlantic 10 play; especially away from home.” The Schureck era will begin on Friday, September 2 when the Musketeers take on Detroit in the Loyola-Chicago Tournament. XU will then play the tournament host on Sunday, September 4.

After a 10-day lay-off, Xavier will play its first home contest of the 2005 season against Bowling Green on Wednesday, September 14. XU downed the Falcons by a score of 4-0 last year in Bowling Green.

The Musketeers will then travel to Miami, Fla. to compete in the Florida International Tournament. XU will take on FIU on Friday, September 16 and will then square off with Florida Atlantic University on Sunday, September 18.

Xavier will return from the Sunshine State to play Butler in Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday, September 23 and will come home to battle Western Kentucky on Sunday, September 25. XU’s contest vs. WKU will be its second and final home game of the non-conference season. XU will then embark on a two-game road trip to the University of Cincinnati and Wright State on Wednesday, September 28 and Friday, September 30 respectively.

The Musketeers will open up Atlantic 10 Conference play on Friday, October 7 when XU squares off against La Salle. Xavier will also play George Washington on Sunday, October 9 at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.

Xavier will matchup with Charlotte for the first time in school history when the Musketeers travel to North Carolina for a Friday, October 14 showdown. XU will stay south of the Mason Dixon line when the team travels to Richmond to take on the Spiders on Sunday, October 16.

Xavier will also play Dayton (Oct. 28), Temple (Nov. 4) and Saint Joe’s (Nov. 6) on the road and Fordham (Oct. 21) and St. Bonaventure (Oct. 23) at the XU Soccer Complex. Wedged in the A-10 season is a showdown with Horizon League foe Valparaiso on Sunday, October 30 at Valpo.
