CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's soccer team opened the spring season scoring six goals in two games, but face a higher level of competition when it plays Notre Dame, a perennial NCAA team, on Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind.
The Musketeers opened up their exhibition schedule last week at home with a 3-0 victory over Thomas More and a 3-1 win over Centre. Those six goals were scored by five different players for Xavier who have won two-straight Atlantic 10 Championships.
Facing Notre Dame will be a much different task than last week's opponents for the Musketeers who settled for a 1-1 draw against the Fighting Irish during preseason play last fall. The Musketeers scored a goal late into the contest but allowed a restart goal with less than a minute to play.
Xavier is led into the match by sophomore Gino Depaoli who scored twice last week. Also scoring in those games for the Musketeers were junior Luke Spencer, sophomores Nick Hagglund and Matt Walker, and freshman Darin Kruzich.
Game time for the match is scheduled for noon ET, but has the potential to be pushed back to 1 p.m. A definite time will be announced on GoXavier.com when it is confirmed.
