Hagglund Taken 10th Overall By Toronto FC In 2014 MLS SuperDraft

CINCINNATI - Senior defender Nick Hagglund (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was selected 10th overall by Toronto FC in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, making him only the second Musketeer ever selected in the MLS SuperDraft after Luke Spencer was taken 23rd overall by the New England Revolution last season.
The senior has been a vital part to the men's soccer program at Xavier. In his four seasons, he started in 81 matches, played over 7,200 minutes and finished with four goals and 11 assists. The Blue & White recorded 31 shutouts with Hagglund as the leader of the backline over four years.
Leading a defensive core that ranked third in the BIG EAST with 1.00 goals allowed, the senior defender started in every game of the 2013 season and recorded three assists on the year. To close out Xavier's first season in the BIG EAST in 2013, Hagglund earned the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award, landed a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team and College Sports Madness All-BIG EAST First Team and claimed a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
Hagglund garnered a long list of accolades this season, including CollegeSoccerNews.com Preseason All-American, TopDrawerSoccer.com (TDS) Top 10 Defenders, TDS Preseason Best XI Second Team, No. 17 on TDS's Men's National Top 100 Upperclassman list, Preseason All-BIG EAST, College Sports Madness BIG EAST Preseason All-Conference First Team and NSCAA MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
As a junior, Hagglund earned his second All-American award making the College Soccer News All-America Third Team. He was named to the NSCAA All-America Second Team becoming the first Musketeer player to ever earn the honor. He was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the start of the season. The Xavier center back earned the Atlantic 10 Conference Defender of the Year award in addition to this two All-American honors. Hagglund started all 22 matches and registered two goals and four assists for the Musketeers who finished their season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Indiana.
In 2011, Hagglund earned spots on the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic First Team, Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and Lakeside Classic All-Tournament Team. He played in 19 games, amounted 1,776 minutes and finished the season with one goal and three assists.
Hagglund's first year at Xavier saw him playing in different positions and claiming spots on both the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team. As a freshman, he was one of four players to start in each of the Musketeers' 21 games, tallied 1,709 minutes (third on the team) and scored his first goal in the NCAA Tournament against West Virginia.
