Jan. 14, 2006
CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's soccer team held its annual end of the year banquet on Saturday, January 14 at the Cintas Center banquet room.
Senior forward Chris Wolever was honored as the team's Most Valuable Player as the Worthington, Ohio native posted a goal and an assist from the XU backline in 2005.
XU men's soccer also said goodbye to seven seniors on Friday as Joe Dolan, Danny Hamzah, Mike Horejs, David Knapp, Bobby Salas and Wolever were formally thanked for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
Sophomore midfielder Joe Fleckenstein was named as the team's Most Improved Player. Fleckenstein played in 17 games during the 2005 season.
Freshman Michael Scholten was selected as the team's Outstanding Newcomer. Scholten was limited to 13 games due to injury but solidified the Musketeer defense when he was in the game.
All the awards were voted on by the team.
Xavier finished 4-10-5 overall and 3-3-3 in Dave Schurek's first season as XU's head coach.
