Men's Soccer Falls Victim to Another Late Goal; Drops 2-1 Decision to Fordham

CINCINNATI - Steven Woicik scored the game-winner in the match's 83rd minute as the Xavier University men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Fordham on Sunday afternoon at the XU Soccer Complex in Cincinnati. With the loss, the Musketeers fall to 2-10-3 on the year and 1-3-2 in Atlantic 10 action. Fordham improves to 7-6-1, 3-2-0.
The match marks XU's first loss to the Rams since 2003.
Woicik's game-winner came at the 83:21 mark when Mike McTigue served a cross inside the box and found Woicik, who hit a header past a diving Ryan Engelmann.
Engelmann made seven saves in his second consecutive start while Fordham keeper Ryan Meara stopped five shots.
Xavier's equalizer came at the 63:04 mark. Andy Dimbi dribbled just outside the box and found Ricky Sutherland 20-yards out. Sutherland dished to Jimmy Cummings, who was streaking deep in the box and he hit it past Meara for his second goal of the season.
Shots were 22-to-19 in Fordham's favor.
FU's first goal came at 21:46. Fordham was awarded a corner kick and Grant Kerr struck a shot deep into the Xavier box and found Pardini's feet. He redirected the ball past Ryan Engelmann and into the back of the net, giving the Rams a lead they would not relinquish.
The Musketeers are back in action on Friday, October 31 when the team travels to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and fans can follow the action live on GAMETRACKER.
