
Bucher Records Three-Point Night as Men's Soccer Downs Temple, 3-2

CINCINNATI - Sophomores Jake Vollmer and Ricky Sutherland scored the game-tying and game-winning goals less than one minute apart late in the second half to propel the Xavier University men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over league foe Temple on Friday evening at the XU Soccer Complex in Cincinnati. With the win, Xavier improves to 6-9-0 on the year and 2-3-0 in A-10 play. The Owls slip to 4-7-2, 0-3-1. The win also enhances XU's record in Atlantic 10 home openers to 8-3-2 all-time. With the win, Xavier improves to 5-1-0 on the year at home and is 9-1-1 in its last 11 matches at the XU Soccer Complex. With Sutherland took advantage of the Musketeer momentum when he scored the game-winner with 17:28 on the clock. Freshman forward Brandon Bucher took a shot from inside the box that was saved by Bucher, who also scored a goal earlier in the game, finished the night with three points and tied classmate El-Hadji Dieng for the team lead with 10 points. Vollmer's goal was the first of his career while Sutherland's score was his third of the season. XU was out-shot by a 9-to-7 count in the first half but came out and controlled the match in the second stanza, out-shooting Junior goalkeeper Adam Sokolowski made two saves in net for Xavier while Pratico stopped four shots for the Owls.
