CINCINNATI - St. Bonaventure forward Matt Keating scored at 77:27 and the Musketeers were unable to answer as the Xavier University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Bonnies on Sunday afternoon at the XU Soccer Complex. With the loss, Xavier slips to 3-9-3 on the year and 2-2-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference action. St. Bonaventure improves to 3-8-3 overall, 2-2-1 in the loop.

Prior to Sunday's match, Xavier recognized the accomplishments of its nine senior members, Joe Dolan, Danny Hamzah, Ty Helmle, Mike Horejs, David Knapp, Brian Malizia, Pat McAndrew, Bobby Salas, and Chris Wolever.

The game-winner came after SBU midfielder Jon Lopez controlled the ball along the sideline and struck a cross past the far post finding Keating. Keating headed the ball down inside the near post and into the back of the net.

That goal proved to be the difference but the Musketeers created several solid scoring chances, especially in the second half where XU out-shot the Bonnies 11-to-2 including 4-to-1 in shots on goal.

One scoring opportunity came after St. Bonaventure was whistled for a foul just outside of the box. Junior midfielder Matt Kmetz took the free kick and it sailed just inches over the cross bar in the game's 65th minute.

After SBU had taken the lead, XU had some good chances to restore parity, the best coming in the game's final minute. The Musketeers earned a corner with 30-seconds to go and Kmetz served the ball into the box. Matt Wheeler and Malizia each took shots on the play that were deflected and Wolever took a shot that was kicked off the goal line by an SBU defender.

Junior Liam Curran made five saves on the day for the Musketeers and allowed one goal for the fifth time in the last six games. Jonathan Blanchard stopped four shots for SBU.

The Musketeers will return to action on Friday, October 28 when they travel to Dayton to take on the Flyers. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and fans can follow the action via gametracker by logging onto GOXAVIER.com.
