AMBLER, Pa. - A converted penalty kick in the 20th minute turned out to be the game-winning goal against the Xavier men's soccer team, who opened up a five-game road trip with a 2-0 loss to Temple on Friday afternoon at the Ambler Soccer Field.

The setback snaps the Musketeers' three-game unbeaten streak and puts their record at 8-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference heading into Sunday's game against Saint Joseph's. Temple improves to 7-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Atlantic 10.

Junior midfielder Cody Calafiore notched the game-winning penalty kick for his fifth goal of the season after Xavier committed a foul in the penalty area.

Temple added a second goal in the closing seconds of the game. Andrew Dodds scored the goal on Willie Chalfant's pass into the box.

Luke Spencer had a team-high four shots for the Musketeers, who registered 17 total shots for the match. The junior forward had three shots on goal, but none were fortunate enough to find the net. Sophomore midfielders Matt Walker and Gino Depaoli each had three shots for Xavier.

Xavier split its scoring chances between three in the first and second halves. The Musketeers had the only corner kick of the contest.

Outside of the penalty kick goal and late score, senior Ryan Engelmann (2-1-1) had a solid game in net for the Musketeers. He made a career-high eight saves in his third start of the season.

Calafiore had four shots to lead the Owls. Temple finished with 12 total shots and nine on goal. Sophomore Bobby Rostato was the winning goalkeeper. He made all six saves.
