Dimbi's Goal Lifts Men's Soccer Past Fordham

Oct. 19, 2007

Box Score

NEW YORK - Freshman midfielder Andy Dimbi scored his first-career goal and the Xavier defense made it hold up as the Xavier University men's soccer team downed Fordham, 1-0, on Friday evening in the "Big Apple".  With the win, Xavier improves to 5-8-0 on the year and 1-2-0 in Atlantic 10 play.  The Rams slip to 2-6-3 overall, 1-1-0 in the loop.

The win was Xavier's first on the road since November 6, 2005; a 1-0 victory at Saint Joseph's.  Four of XU's wins this year have come via the shutout.

Dimbi's game-winner came at the 60:20 mark.  The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half but Dimbi's goal came on XU's first shot attempt of second half after the ball was misplayed by a Ram defender.

Junior goalkeeper Adam Sokolowski notched his third shutout of the season and made four saves on the night.  He made a potentially game-saving stop just 3:18 into the first half.  Fordham's Grant Kerr struck a shot from just outside the box but Sokolowski made a diving save and punched the ball out of harm's way.

The Rams held a 13-to-8 advantage in shots and a 4-to-3 edge in shots on goal.  Dan Hajducky stopped two shots for Fordham.

The Musketeers will be back in action on Sunday when the team's nomadic schedule stretch continues at La Salle.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
