BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore midfielder Andy Dimbi put XU up 1-0 early but No. 13 Virginia Tech answered with a pair of scores as the Hokies downed the Xavier University men's soccer team by a 2-1 count on Sunday afternoon in Blacksburg, Va. With the loss, Xavier slips to 0-3 on the season while VT improves to 2-1-1.

Dimbi's score came just 9:12 into the contest when he fired a shot from just outside the box into left side of the goal to give XU the 1-0 edge.

The Hokies' equalizer came at the 37:32 mark. Freshman Jimmy was issued a red card that resulted in Virginia Tech being awarded a penalty kick.

Emmanuel Akogyeram took the PK but it was saved by a diving Adam Sokolowski. Sokolowski was unable to corral the rebound though and it ricocheted right back to Akogyeram, who punched it in the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

XU had been playing VT evenly prior to the red card, as shots were 6-4 and corner kicks were 4-3 in favor of Tech before Meglio's ejection.

The Musketeers were forced to play a man down but held their own in the second half, keeping the contest tied until Scott Dillie's game-winner with only 2:33 remaining in regulation. Dillie's score came off of a free kick.

Senior goalkeeper Adam Sokolowski was solid for Xavier, making eight saves. Stefan Caulfield made four saves, all of which came in the second half.

XU is back in action on Friday, September 12 when the team travels to DeKalb, Ill. to participate in Northern Illinois' tournament. XU will square-off against the tournament hosts on Friday at 6 p.m. and will take on Northwestern on Sunday at 1 p.m.
