Enders Scores First Goal of 2007 But Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 at Marquette
Sept. 7, 2007
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Senior Jon Enders scored his first goal of the season but it was not enough as the Xavier University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Marquette on Friday evening in Milwaukee, Wis. With the loss, the Musketeers slip to 2-1-0 on the season while the Golden Eagles improve to 1-2-0. Enders answered a Stefan Antonijevic goal with an equalizer in the 40th minute. After a Marquette foul, sophomore forward Slavisa Ubiparipovic took a free kick and found Enders who was in the box. Enders hit a header into the back of the net from 10-yards to restore parity at 39:59. The Golden Eagles would respond quickly though and netted the eventual game-winner just three minutes later to head into the half up 2-1. The goal by Marquette was the first goal XU had allowed in 2007 and broke a shutout span of 222:23. The Golden Eagles out-shot XU by a 16-to-7 margin and held a 6-to-4 edge in shots on goal. Adam Sokolowski played all 90-minutes in net for Xavier and made four saves. Matt Pyzdrowski made three saves for Marquette. Xavier will remain on the road to take on its second-straight BIG EAST opponent when the Musketeers square-off against DePaul in Chicago. Game time is set for 2:05 EDT.
