CINCINNATI - Junior captain Jake Vollmer scored late in the first half and the Musketeer defense made it hold up as the Xavier University men's soccer team downed Oakland by a 1-0 count on Friday evening in exhibition action at the XU Soccer Complex in Cincinnati. With the win, Xavier concludes its exhibition season with a spotless 2-0 mark.

The Musketeers will open regular season play on Friday, August 29 when the team welcomes crosstown rival Cincinnati to the XU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. The first 250 fans to arrive will receive a free t-shirt.

Vollmer played a ball to freshman forward Andrew Boisvert just outside the box and Boisvert dished to sophomore Andy Dimbi who redirected the ball towards a streaking Vollmer. Vollmer controlled the ball and struck a shot just inside the near post and past a diving Steve Clark.

Oakland out-shot Xavier by an 18-to-12 count but senior keeper Adam Sokolowski turned away eight shots to secure the victory.
