CINCINNATI - The No. 22 Xavier men's soccer team fell to Belmont, 1-0, in their first exhibition match of the 2013 season Sunday night at the XU Soccer Complex.
"I thought that we were a little unlucky with the call that led to the penalty kick" said head coach Andy Fleming. "After that I think we played a pretty good second half, considering the number of guys we have out this week and the injuries that we have had. I think that we lacked a little bit of the Xavier moxie and personality that has put us on the map. We have another exhibition Friday and almost two weeks before our first regular season game, so we'll work hard to get ready."
A penalty kick from Belmont senior Sam Miller in the 53rd minute of the match broke the scoreless contest and put the Bruins in the lead for good.
The Musketeers return to action for their final exhibition contest this Friday (8 p.m.) when they face Loyola Chicago in Fort Wayne, Ind. in the Shindigz National Soccer Festival (Hosted By IPFW).
