With the holiday season upon us, Xavier's athletic programs have been busy in the Cincinnati community. Members of the various teams describe just a handful of the projects and community service programs with which they are involved. And, the student-athletes discuss what it means to them to be able to give back to a community that provides so much for them.
Xavier men's soccer player Andy Kaplan has a bright future ahead of himself. The diminutive defender has already been accepted to one law school and has applications in to many other premier law schools around the country. Kaplan has also been on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years, where he has helped shaped the committee and developed several fundraisers. He even discusses his favorite hobby, cooking.
With the men's soccer season beginning this weekend what better team to feature for this week's Ask A Musketeer. Junior Andy Kaplan, a defensive midfielder for the two-time defending Atlantic 10 Champions, answers your questions.
Xavier found out it will be returning to the NCAA Tournament to face West Virginia for the second year.
The men's soccer team closes out its regular season schedule with a match against Dayton. Xavier is looking to secure a spot in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship next weekend.
2013-14 BIG EAST All-Academic Team
As A Senior (2013)
Played in 18 of team's 19 games, earning a starting spot in four matches ... had one assist and two shot attempts in a 2-1 victory over Providence (Oct. 26).
As A Junior (2012)
Played primarily in the defensive midfield ...started in 11 of the 22 games played ... finished the season with one assist, two shots on goal and seven total shots ... lone assist came in the season-opener tie with Northwestern ... also had one shot on goal during that game.
As A Sophomore (2011)
Mainstay in the defensive midfield and one of just two players to start in all 21 matches ... scored the equalizer and the first-goal of his career against No. 13 Northern Illinois ... named to the 2011 Lakeside Classic All-Tournament Team ... collected his first-career assist against La Salle ... was second on the team with 1,859 minutes played ... played the entire match 14 times ... finished the season with eight shots.
As A Freshman (2010)
An intimidating presence in the Musketeers' backfield ... during his 12 starts the Musketeers allowed only 10 goals ... saw action in 20 total games and racked up 1,303 minutes on the pitch, second most among freshmen ... recorded two shots on the year.
Three-year starter for high school team ... named to Second Team All-State and Academic All-State his senior year while leading his team to the State Finals ... played club soccer in the spring of 2009 with the Cutters '92 Red, coached by former Indiana University assistant Phil Presser ... played for the Hoosier FC 91-92 in the spring of 2010.
Parents are Stu and Masako ... majoring in Philosophy, Politics & The Public.
