Maillet in Lead, Men's Golf Team Second at Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Miles Maillet (Bishop, Calif./Union) holds a one stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final round at the Wolverine Invitational. The Musketeer men’s golf team is in second place, just one shot off the leaders.
Maillet shot consecutive rounds of 2-under 69 and holds the overall lead at 4-under 138. Two golfers are one stroke back, and a total of seven are under par after two rounds.
Sophomore Neal Grusczynski (West Allis, Wis./Central) posted rounds of 73 and 70 on Saturday, and is tied for 13th overall at 1-over 143.
Freshman Andy Pope (Glen Ellyn, Ill/Glen Bard) and junior Matt Makinson (Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial Secondary) are tied for 18th overall at 3-over 145. Pope shot a 69 and a 76 on Saturday while Makinson had rounds of 72 and 73.
Senior Tim Smith (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) had scores of 72 and 78 to finish at 8-over 150 and in a tie for 47th place.
As a team, Xavier shto rounds of 282 and 288 on Saturday, to stand at 2-over 570. The Musketeers trail Michigan State by one stroke heading into Sundays final round. Third place Miami is the only other school within 10 strokes of the Xavier. The RedHawks are third with a 573.
