CINCINNATI - The Xavier men’s golf team will compete in Madison, Wis. this weekend, when they participate in the 54-hole Badger Invitational Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the University Ridge Golf Course. The three-day competition includes a 14-team field plus five individuals, who will participate from the championships tees on the Par 72, 7,259-yard course.
Joining Wisconsin and Xavier in the field are Austin Peay, Charleston Southern, Illinois State, Kansas, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, Rutgers, South Carolina, UMKC, USC Upstate and Wofford.
XU will sport a five-person lineup of Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran), Tanapol Vattanapisit (Rayong, Thailand/The Pendleton School), Matt Gerard (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and John Burger (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle).
Last week in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Blue and White finished 4th at the 2013 Michigan Wolverine Intercollegiate at the University of Michigan Golf Course. XU, who carded their best round of the tournament on Tuesday (280) and finished with an 860 (292-288-280), was led by Ward, who finished in a tie for 6th place (71-70-71/212).
Playing in threesomes, the teams will play 18 holes each day. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday off holes 1 and 10, while a shotgun start is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
