HUNTINGTON, W.Va. --- Xavier University sophomore Korey Ward is the individual leader after finishing an impressive first day at the Marshall Invitational, carding a two-round total of 7-under-par 135 at the Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W.Va. The Xavier team is tied for fifth place with Miami (Ohio) after day one with a 577.

Virginia Tech (548) leads the 16-team field followed by Marshall (564), Ohio State (565) and Western Kentucky (575). The third and final round tees off tomorrow morning.

Ward followed up a first-round 69 with a second-round 66 to secure a one shot lead. Ward's teammate, senior Aaron Siekmann, fired a 75 in the first round but bounced back with a 5-under-par 66 in the second round to finish day one in a tie for 12th place at 1-under-par 141. Junior Yuki Kato is 66th at 151, sophomore Jessie Heinly is 66th at 151 and freshman Nicholas Crozier is 72nd at 152.
