CINCINNATI --- Xavier University sophomore golfer Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was named today to the five-member Atlantic 10 Conference All-Academic Team. Ward is an excellent student with a 3.63 GPA in Finance. He also has been nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-American program, although those results have yet to be announced.
Ward will be competing later this week at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Ward will compete in the 54-hole regional tournament May 16-18 at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course. There will be 13 teams and 10 individuals competing at the regional at OSU.
This will be the third straight year and the 10th time in 13 years that the Xavier men's golf program has sent an individual or the team to an NCAA Regional. This marks the third straight year and the fifth time in seven years that a Xavier men's individual golfer has been selected for the NCAA Championship.
Ward has had a very good year for the Musketeers. He posted three top five finishes in 10 tough tournaments played and takes a 71.8 scoring average into a likely NCAA at-large berth as an individual. Ward won the Marshall Invitational, finished third at the Warrior Wave Invitational hosted by Hawaii and 11th at the Cobra PUMA Invitational in Florida. He finished under par for 10 rounds this year and under par for four tournaments, shooting season-lows of 65 in the first round at Pinehurst Intercollegiate and the Cobra PUMA Invitational.
