Men's Golf Set to Tee Off at Atlantic 10 Championships

CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's golf team will tee off in the 33rd annual Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship Friday, April 29 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The tournament will span three days, with the conference champion being crowned Sunday, May 1.

The field boasts 11 teams including five-time defending champion No. 58 Charlotte. The 49ers Will Gorden is the highest ranked individual in the field according to the latest GolfStat poll, at No. 107. Richmond comes in ranked No. 72, while the Musketeers are No. 129.

The Musketeers most recently won the team title in 2005. XU also won A-10 team titles in 2003, 2001 and 1998. The Musketeers have had eight medalists in its 15 seasons in the conference, with the most recent being in 2006 when John Streibich and Jason Kokrak tied with a score of 206.

Xavier has had five A-10 Outstanding Rookies, including current junior Sebastian MacLean. Head coach Doug Steiner has been named Coach of the Year three times, most recently in 2005.

Last season, the Musketeers finished in third place, while Alan Glynn earned a top-10 finish and a spot on the All-Conference team. Herbert Day also finished in the top-10, while Peter O'Neill came in 20th.
