Streibich Claims Medalist Honors as Men's Golf Finishes Second at Xavier Invitational

LOVELAND, Ohio - Xavier's John Streibich fired a 4-under par 68 in the final round of the 2005 Xavier Invitational to take medalist honors and lead the Musketeers to a runner-up finish in the annual fall event. XU carded a final round of 282 (-6) and finished tied atop the team leaderboard with Austin Peay on the par 72, 6,921-yard Oasis Golf Club. The two teams went into a playoff and Austin Peay won the title on the second hole.

Xavier finished the three-round tournament with a 21-under par 843, which is the second lowest total in the 13-year history of the event. Davidson's Tim Dillon turned in the low round of the day with a 6-under par 66.

Streibich finished with a three-round total of 202 (-14), which was two shots better than Austin Peay's Yoshio Yamamoto. Jason Kokrak fired a 69 (-3) in the final round to finish in a tie for fourth at 6-under par (210). Andy Pope shot an even-par 72 and also finished with a three-round total of 210 (-6).

Mike Beausejour fired a 73 (+1) to finish at 222 (+6) and Andy Connell was 3-over par on the day to card a three-round total of 227 (+11). Competing as individuals, Kyle Hodges shot a 72 to finish with a 4-over par 220, Justin Fender fired an 8-over par 80 for a three-round total of 228 (+12) and Josh Hedge shot a 77 (+5) to finish at 16-over par (232).

 

 

"My performance over the last couple days was beyond anything I could have expected and the entire team gave a solid effort," said Streibich. "We had three guys finish in the top five and the other guys battled hard to keep us in contention throughout the tournament."

Xavier will be back in action on October 31 when the Musketeers will participate in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M.
