Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At The Wolverine Intercollegiate

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Xavier men's golf team wrapped up its second tournament of the fall season with a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Michigan Wolverine Intercollegiate at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
XU carded their best round of the tournament on Tuesday (280) and finished with an 860 (292-288-280). Michigan State (294-277-280/851), led by Mitch Rutledge, who finished tied for third place, took the team title, followed by Lamar (285-288-280/853) and tournament host Michigan (288-285-283/856).
Junior Korey Ward (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) led the Musketeers, finishing in a tie for 6th place, individually. Ward shot an even-par 71 in the final round and finished with a 212 (71-70-71) in the two-day event.
Senior Yuki Kato (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) finished two strokes behind Ward and finished in a tie for 9th place. Kato shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday, after rounds of 71 and 72 on day one.
Tanapol Vattanapisit (Rayong, Thailand/The Pendleton School) carded an even-par 71 on the way to finishing tied for 16th place. The junior finished the event with a 216 (75-70-71).
Matt Gerard (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Matt Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle HS) rounded out the Musketeer scorecard, as they tied for 24th and 50th place, respectively. Wetterich turned in a 228 (76-76-76), while Gerard tallied a 219, which included the lowest round of the event for a Xavier golfer (67).
The Blue and White will return to the course when they head to South Bend, Ind. to take part in the Notre Dame Gridiron Classic from Sept. 22-24. Results and recaps from the tournament will be provided at GoXavier.com at the conclusion of each day.
